Area libraries are kicking off their summer reading programs. This year’s theme is “Color Our World.”

On Saturday, the Autauga Prattville Public Library held their kick-off party and included a silent auction, games, crafts, bouncy houses, face painting, and food. Over 200 families attended the event.

Attendees at the event were able to bid on items donated by local businesses and all proceeds will benefit the library’s new building fund.

The Summer Reading program is geared to children, teens, and adults. The library will have children and adult programs. The emphasis is more for children because summer is a time to read books and to fill in the gap from school year to school year. The goal is to make it fun and challenging in a good way by rewarding not just reading but coming to the library for reading programs and story time.

The Summer Reading Program will conclude on Tuesday July 22

nd

which will end with an ice cream social.

“Thank you to everyone that came out this morning to the kickoff party and silent auction,” said Kim Ivey, Children and Youth Services Librarian.

She continued, “The families enjoyed the bouncy houses, games, crafts, popsicles, silent auction and even checking out books. A special thank you to Metro Eatery’s Fork in the Road food truck for coming to the event.”
