From 4-H in Autauga County

The Autauga County 4-H RiverKids program has now begun! Being out on our beloved Autauga Creek on such a lovely morning was wonderful!
We had an amazing first flood thanks to Skip Lobmiller, the Autauga Creek Improvement Committee, the City of Prattville, Alabama 4-H, the Alabama Scenic River Trail, the Autauga County Commission, Krystal Vaith, the instructor for Chilton County 4-H RiverKids, Katie Hill, the instructor for Chambers County 4-H RiverKids, Dr. Emily Nichols, the Alabama State Outdoor Education Specialist, and some of the community’s top 4-H volunteers!
We saw magnificent Canadian geese up close and were astounded by the wide range of tree types that bordered the water, particularly the magnificent cypress trees that grew beside and even in the creek! Before we launched, a keen-eyed paddler even found a little inchworm, which we all carefully returned to its nest after admiring for a while. We were astounded by the cliff swallows and their meticulously built mud nests as we passed beneath the bridge!
From paddling methods and water safety to the value of teamwork and a greater understanding of our local ecosystem, we learned a great deal.
We are already anticipating the experience for next month!
As soon as the next float is posted, your children can reserve a space if they are enrolled in our system!
