A 22-year-old man has been charged in connection with the 2024 shooting at a gas station in east Birmingham that claimed a man’s life and injured a woman.

According to court documents released this week, a Jefferson County grand jury indicted Deeric Mikell Lewis on June 13 for murder in the death of 33-year-old Colby Lemar Cade and attempted murder in the injury of the surviving woman.

On Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at around 6:36 p.m., shooting broke out at the Shell station located at the intersection of Old Springville Road and Brewster Road.

About half a block away, at Station 30, Cade and the woman slammed into one of the bay doors while driving away in a vehicle, presumably seeking medical attention.

The car hit the building, but no firefighters were hurt.

Cade was declared dead after the two shooting victims were transported to UAB Hospital.

Two days later, Lewis was arrested by Birmingham police at a residence on Molly Drive in the Grayson Valley neighborhood.

Since his arrest on February 9, 2024, Lewis had been detained at the Jefferson County Jail.

No motive has been revealed.

There is no definite date for the trial.
