The expectations for this fall have been a recurrent topic during the Auburn football offseason.
Some Tiger supporters are hopeful about the 2025 season after combining the top transfer portal class with two of the top ten recruiting classes.
But as the third year begins, Auburn coach Hugh Freeze is under fire according to the annual preview magazine published by Athlon Sports.
Freeze did not make it to the bowl game with the Tigers past season, finishing with an overall record of 11-14 at Auburn. Auburn defeated to Maryland in the Music City bowl during his first season as head coach.
Columnist Michael Casagrande of Al.com claims that Freeze had an 83-43 record in 10 seasons with a 65.8 winning percentage before joining Auburn.Freeze has a 44.0 winning percentage while playing with the Tigers.
Auburn is coming off its fourth consecutive losing season and hasn’t won more than six games since 2019. Despite participating in nearly every game during the previous season, the Tigers lost a few games due to self-inflicted injuries.
Last season, Auburn lost five of their seven games by ten points or less. The Tigers led the SEC in turnovers with 22, yet they only managed eight red zone scores in eight conference games.
I’m not a moron; I believe we must attend a bowl game. Freeze stated on the Next Round Live broadcast back in May, “I think our administration understands, look, I inherited a program that didn’t have a top 25 recruiting class for four years.”
I see no reason why we shouldn’t do that, and I believe it’s an expectation that our people should have. We could have won some games last year, and we need to figure out how to be great in those areas that cost us those points and put us in a position to be bowl eligible, if not more.
Freeze is under more pressure this fall despite being 5-7 last year, even though they went 6-7 in Year 1.
