How will Auburn’s Nike sponsorship impact each sport: Auburn uniform researcher explains

Published On:

Officially, Auburn sports is a Nike school.

What comes next, then?

The Tigers’ fall sports program will be the first to incorporate the Nike emblem with Auburn’s traditional colors.

There are many unanswered uncertainties about how the uniform designs will appear in the Nike era. Clint Richardson, a uniform researcher at Auburn, detailed his predictions for each major sport.

Richardson told AL.com Tuesday morning that he believes football in particular will be quite similar to what we have seen over the past 60 years.

Richardson went on to explain that Auburn supporters may anticipate wearing the Nike F.U.S.E. jerseys coming fall, just as the majority of Nike NFL teams and college teams do.

When Richardson described the jersey design, he added that it has a very sharp V seam on the chest and resembles a big cowcatcher collar. With Nike, you don’t see many teams wearing blank collars. They frequently place a logo in the center of the front collar.

The copper plate chest mark on the front will likely remain on Auburn’s blank one. It may be slightly pushed down. It may become slightly more popular than it was with Under Armour, but I predict that football will be 99% the same as it has always been.

Auburn baseball and softball will use the same model as Major League Baseball.

The Nike-designed uniforms received a lot of criticism during the 2024 Major League Baseball season. Ahead of this season, adjustments were made possible by the MLBPA’s resolution of the league’s issues.

According to Richardson, baseball is most likely going to adopt the same model that MLB has been employing since the beginning of the previous season, which sparked a great deal of debate among players and spectators. The primary concerns were their appearance, fit, perspiration, and mismatched graze. Therefore, it’s a totally different approach to baseball uniforms than what the majority of businesses have taken.

Similar to the previous sports, Auburn basketball’s jersey designs will probably be modeled after those of the NBA. But there may be a new style coming for sports like soccer.

According to Richardson, they have been wearing the straight sash jersey since it was launched in 2014. There is still a striped sash on the front of the jersey with the Auburn and the player number in the center, even if it has been removed for a few versions. Will they stick with it, or will they press the refresh button and attempt something different, particularly with the coach?

Auburn has maintained its history over the years by wearing the colors that were popular during the football program’s heyday. Richardson is excited to watch the Tigers’ iconic colors and stripes change as we enter the Nike era.

According to Richardson, all uniforms currently have a pretty conventional appearance. I wonder if that’s a tendency that’s just continuing or if Auburn is making a holistic decision. I’m interested to see where each program will lead him in the next weeks.

Despite the partnership’s Tuesday launch, all Nike merchandise will be accessible for purchase on the internet and in physical shops on July 25.
