Homewood daycare worker chases parent, shoots tire after argument at drop-off, police say

Published On:

A morning argument between a parent and a Homewood daycare worker ended with shots fired.

No one was injured, but the daycare worker was taken into custody and is facing charges of attempted murder.

The ordeal began Monday morning when a woman and her sister dropped a child off at ABC Daycare & Kindergarten on Columbiana Road.

Police Sgt. Mark Trippe said the women got into an argument with the daycare employee because they were late for drop-off.

The verbal altercation then turned physical, but others present broke it up.

The women, with the child in tow, got into their vehicle and left, Trippe said. The employee got into her vehicle and followed them.

As they got to Carr Avenue near Green Springs Highway, only about a block away, witnesses told police the daycare employee fired multiple shots at the other vehicle.

The shots were fired shortly after 9:15 a.m.

Trippe described the incident as “chaotic.”

Detectives and crime scene technicians recovered a bullet from the victim’s tire.

The suspect was taken to police headquarters for questioning. Her name is being withheld pending formal charges.

Efforts to reach the daycare for comment were not immediately successful.
