After being placed on injured reserve on Monday, two former Alabama high school standouts who joined NFL teams after training camps began may be out for the 2025 campaign.
Auburn alumsAlabama’s 2015 Greenville Class 5A Lineman of the Year, Marlon Davidson, suffered a biceps injury during the Houston Texans’ 20-10 preseason loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday.
Davidson played 37 defensive snaps on Saturday, recording one QB hit and two tackles.
After missing the 2024 NFL season, Davidson inked a contract with the Texanson on August 1. Last season, Davidson was placed on injured reserve after tearing his biceps during a combined preseason session with the Seattle Seahawks and the Tennessee Titans.
After suffering a rib injury during the San Francisco 49ers’ 30-9 loss to the Denver Broncos in their preseason opener on Saturday, former Homewood High School standout Ameer Abdullah was placed on injured reserve.
Abdullah lost a fumble in his first game for the 49ers after signing with San Francisco on July 31. He also gained 20 yards on four rushing attempts and returned a kickoff 22 yards.
Abdullah wanted to participate in his eleventh season in the NFL. Without agreeing to an injury settlement with his team and getting cut, he and Davidson won’t be able to play in 2025. When healthy, that would enable him to sign with another team.
Since Davidson and Abdullah have played in the NFL for at least four seasons, they were placed on injured reserve immediately without having to go through waivers.

New England Patriots add former Alabama high school standout
With former Alabama State defensive back Mikey Victor rejoining the NFL and three other players with Alabama football ties losing their roster spots, Monday’s NFL transactions report featured four additional players from Alabama high schools and universities.
Cameron McCutcheon, a defensive back with an injury classification, was waived by the NFL organization, and Victor signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
When the New England Patriots cut their preseason roster to the regular-season cap, Victor, who had signed with the organization as an undrafted rookie the previous season, was cut.
The Washington Commanders waived cornerback Allan George (Andalusia), the Las Vegas Raiders waived wide receiver Kawaan Baker (South Alabama), and the Steelers waived fullback D.J. Thomas-Jones (Saraland, South Alabama) on Monday.
Baker joined the Raiders on August 3 and participated in five offensive snaps during Thursday’s preseason opener in a 23-23 draw with the Seahawks in Las Vegas.
Baker, who was selected in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft, has appeared in two games during the regular season while playing for the Patriots, Philadelphia Eagles, and New Orleans Saints.
After playing in four games as an undrafted rookie in 2022 with the Cincinnati Bengals, George was looking to rejoin the NFL. He was a member of the Bengals practice squad in 2022 and 2023.
During 29 defensive snaps and nine special-teams plays in Washington’s 48-18 preseason opening against New England on Friday, George made one tackle and broke up one pass.
Thomas-Jones, a tight end at South Alabama, had joined Pittsburgh in May as an undrafted rookie and had been playing both tight end and fullback. In the Steelers’ 31–25 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in their preseason opener on Saturday, Thomas-Jones did not participate.
