Talk show co-host urges singer to reject Kennedy Center Honor: ‘Trump is a stain’

In an Instagram post Thursday morning, co-host of The View Ana Navarro urged singer Gloria Gaynor to decline President Trump’s Kennedy Center Honor.

I had the opportunity to meet @gloriagaynor for a short time during a Miami concert a few years ago. She gave me a keychain that, when pressed, sang out the song “I Will Survive.” Navarro started her Instagram post by saying, “Let’s just say, during the first Trump term, I pressed it until it ran out of batteries.” Trump declared yesterday that he has chosen her to be the recipient of a Kennedy Center Honor, which he intends to host.

“Look, the woman is a goddess and deserves all the flowers that come her way,” Navarro went on. However, I hope she wouldn’t accept an award from a man who has disparaged the history and rights of LGBTQ people, women, and people of color. Her signature song became an anthem with the aid of the gay community in particular. Trump is a disgrace to the KCH’s honor and importance. Gloria, don’t do it!

At a press conference held at the performing arts complex on Wednesday, Trump revealed this year’s Kennedy complex honorees.

He disclosed that in addition to Gloria Gaynor, the award will also go to country singer-songwriter George Strait, rock band Kiss, actor and comedian Michael Crawford, and actor Sylvester Stallone.

In December, the president will host the 2025 Kennedy Center Honors, which honors those who have significantly influenced American culture through the performing arts.

Trump declared in February that he had been unanimously chosen to serve as the board head of the Kennedy Center. The statement came after he controversially replaced board members that Joe Biden, his predecessor, had nominated.

In the past, Trump has attacked the Kennedy Center for airing shows that he views as too progressive. He said on Truth Social earlier this year, “ONLY THE BEST—NO MORE DRAG SHOWS OR OTHER ANTI-AMERICAN PROPAGANDA.”

Variety has contacted Gaynor’s representative for a response.
