Preparations for Baylor are beginning to pick up speed as Auburn football enters the second half of preseason camp.
The media had the opportunity to see nearly an hour of the Tigers’ 12th practice of the camp on Thursday morning. Stretching, drills, and a goal line time with the quarterbacks, wide receivers, and defensive backs were all part of the press viewing window.
This is what we observed during practice on Thursday:
Availability report
Cam Coleman wore a gold non-contact jersey yet took part in the open portion.
— Although Eric Singleton Jr. stretched with the team, he skipped practice during the open period to work with the trainers.
— On Wednesday, Demarcus Riddick returned to practice unhindered, as DJ Durkin disclosed.
— A rookie tight end After being suspended after being arrested on suspicion of possessing a Schedule I controlled drug, Hollis Davidson III was at practice.
Other observations
— Thursday’s practice was lighter than Friday’s scrimmage since Auburn wasn’t wearing full pads.
During the media watching time, there were no team or 11-on-11 periods, therefore we were unable to observe which players were competing for the first, second, and third teams.
Malcolm Simmons and Bryce Cain were the main punt returners during drills since Singleton wasn’t practicing.
For the most of the practice, Champ Anthony was training alone on the stationary bike.
— The defense once again prevailed during the redzone phase with defensive backs and receivers.
— Jackson Arnold’s tendency to hold onto the ball for extended periods of time seems to irritate Hugh Freeze and the coaching staff. When Arnold failed to toss the ball on one of his reps, Freeze shouted at him and threw his visor on the ground.
In that exercise, Horatio Fields appeared to be the hardest guy to cover, and the receivers had the most success on the quick slant route across the middle.
When it came to competing for jump balls, Coleman didn’t seem like himself, and Kayin Lee frequently prevailed.
— Brandon Frazier made a catch over Kensley Louidor-Faustin during a beautiful play on a goal line fade.
