Andy Kennedy will remain in Birmingham for the foreseeable future as a member of UAB basketball. Kennedy’s contract extension for the next six seasons was authorized by the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees on Friday.
In September 2023, Kennedy previously consented to an extension that paid him $1 million, with an increase of $100,000 per season for the duration of the agreement, through the 2028–2029 season. According to his new contract, he will make $1.4 million in the upcoming season and $1.5 million in each of the next five seasons.
According to UAB director of sports Mark Ingram, Coach Kennedy has had great success in his five years as head coach, and this extension only serves to strengthen UAB basketball’s future. Under Coach Kennedy’s direction, we’re excited to keep enhancing UAB basketball’s reputation both domestically and internationally.
In his five seasons as head coach at UAB, Kennedy had a 125-50 record. During that period, he has led the Blazers to two NCAA Tournament visits, winning the American Athletic Conference Tournament in 2024 and the Conference USA Tournament in 2022. UAB finished third in the AAC with a 13-5 conference record and a 24-13 record the previous season. The Blazers lost to UC Irvine in the quarterfinals, but they were awarded a berth to the NIT.
