This offseason, Auburn coach Hugh Freeze promised the supporters that the team would play in a bowl game. That guarantee is supported by a recent forecast made by ESPN’s Kyle Bonagura.
Bonagura predicted that Auburn will face Boston College in the Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl in ESPN’s 2025 preseason college football playoff and bowl forecasts.
Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, is the venue for that game.
The Florida Gators defeated Tulane 33-8 in the 2024 Gasparilla Bowl. Florida had a 7-5 record going into the bowl (4-4 in the league). Tulane had one conference loss and a 9–4 record going into the game.
Despite a great showing in the Gasparilla Bowl last year, Auburn’s recent record suggests otherwise. The Tigers are coming off their fourth consecutive losing season and haven’t won more than six games since 2019.
Auburn was not eligible for a bowl game after finishing 5-7 the previous season. Auburn defeated to Maryland in the Music City Bowl during Freeze’s first season as head coach in 2023.
The Tigers’ season opener against Baylor on August 29 will mark the beginning of their quest to determine their postseason destiny.
