New Huntsville factory will produce 60,000 drones a year in response to threat from China

A drone maker from Huntsville wants to help America catch up to China in the manufacturing business.

On Wednesday, Professional Drone Works opened its brand-new, 90,000-square-foot facility located on Diamond Drive. On July 1, PDW, the company, started producing drones at the facility. According to Ryan Gury, co-founder and CEO of PDW, it is anticipated to generate 60,000 drones annually.

According to Gury, PDW is the most significant drone firm in the US. The reason for this is that China has started an economic sabotage campaign to weaken the drone market in the United States. They were wise enough to see that these tiny drones might be used in future conflicts. We must make sure that the best drone technology is available in the United States. Our supply chain operates domestically. Thus, we are now prepared. We require many PDWs.

According to Gury and co-founder Matt Higgins, Chinese manufacturers are creating drones at a lower cost than American ones. According to a statistic mentioned by Higgins, 90% of all U.S. law enforcement agencies use drones manufactured in China.

PDW is growing its Huntsville operations to take on China. In accordance with its agreement with the city of Huntsville, the firm is now hiring over 500 individuals to work at the facility known as Drone Factory 1, with beginning salaries exceeding $100,000 annually.

The business estimates that its annual impact in north Alabama will be $81 million.

“Our mother ship, the C100 platform, already supports the Army,” Gury stated. Our $3,500 affordable multimotored drone, the AM10 platform, will shortly be released to compete with much larger and more costly systems.

The U.S. Army has awarded the corporation multiple contracts, such as the Transformation in Contact Initiative and the Medium Range Reconnaissance (MRR) program. According to PDW, C100 also offers public safety operations mission-critical capabilities that bridge the readiness gap and give frontline forces a significant advantage.

Higgins remarked, “We all feel such tremendous urgency here.” We are aware that, as a nation, not as a business, we are lagging behind. Regretfully, China and other countries have an advantage. However, we are giving it our all. The Trump Administration and the U.S. military are doing a great job of giving drones priority.

The cutting-edge facility has strong quality engineering capabilities, materials management, and large-scale production. DF01 is the cleanest engineering facility in the world thanks to its 99.9% pathogen reduction using Lit Thinking’s Visium Far-UVC devices, according to PDW.

According to Tommy Battle, the mayor of Huntsville, PDW is a source of innovation for the country’s defense and a boost to the local economy. This growth enhances our advanced manufacturing industry, creates high-quality jobs, and solidifies Huntsville’s standing as a key aerospace and defense base. We are pleased to see PDW flourishing here and influencing the future of our town.

Producing drones for a racing league, the startup began with 12 workers at the Stovehouse entertainment venue on Governors Drive.
