Alabama 5-star RB commit EJ Crowell suspended for Friday’s opener against Saraland

Ezavier EJ Crowell, a five-star running back from Jackson High and an Alabama recruit, has been suspended for Friday’s season opener against Saraland.

The news was confirmed to AL.com by Aggies coach Cody Flournoy. The first person to report was Simone Eli of WKRG-TV in Mobile.

According to a judgment made by the Alabama High School Athletic Association, Flournoy stated that Crowell will just miss Friday’s game and return on August 29 at Demopolis.

On June 26, Crowell pledged his allegiance to Alabama over Texas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Florida State, and numerous other schools.

As a sophomore, the 5-foot-11, 215-pound senior led the Aggies to the Class 4A state championship by rushing for 1,964 yards and 31 touchdowns on 168 carries.

He declared in January that this fall would be his final season of high school football as he would be reclassified into the Class of 2026.

Crowell was selected as a first-team MaxPreps All-American on Monday. Additionally, according to AL.com’s Best in Bama rating of Alabama’s top college prospects by classification, he is the top player. The 247 composite rankings rate him as the nation’s second-best running back.
