Alabama’s most costly public university is regarded as one of the top regional institutions in the country.
Data collected by the Alabama Commission on Higher Education indicates that, for in-state undergraduate students in the autumn of 2025, Troy University is the most costly public four-year institution.
Troy is ranked No. 45 among Southern regional universities in the most recent U.S. News & World Report rankings.
The following are the annual tuition costs for in-state students at the top five public universities:

Auburn University at Montgomery: $11,370
The tuition costs do not include fees and are based on full-time undergraduate attendance. In this report, 30 credit hours is considered full time.
The Alabama Commission on Higher Education reports that during 2015, Troy University has seen a roughly 10% drop in in-state student enrollment.
Nonetheless, over the past ten years, enrollment has increased at a number of schools.In-state enrollment has grown by almost 7% since 2015, and students have been arriving at the University of Alabama for the month.
Since 2015, Auburn University’s in-state enrollment has grown by 12%. The admissions policy will undergo a significant shift for students hoping to apply the following year.
