These 5 pivotal games will define Alabama’s 2025 season

The moment has come. This week marks the official start of the 2025 Alabama football season.

Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida, will host the Crimson Tide’s road opener versus Florida State on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT, ABC. This non-conference game won’t define Alabama’s season, even though a victory would kick off the 2025 campaign strongly.

Rather, these five games will be far more important in determining Alabama’s season.

At Georgia: Sept. 27

It is anticipated that this game would not only define Alabama’s season but also the SEC and the future of college football. It is anticipated that the Bulldogs and Crimson Tide will once again rank among the best teams in the nation. Alabama is ranked No. 8, while Georgia is ranked No. 5. It wouldn’t be astonishing if both teams were in the top five by the time of this meeting.

Georgia will be out for retribution for what happened a season ago. Alabama will try to get off to a strong start on the conference schedule with a road victory. This early game may easily determine a trip to Atlanta, as the Bulldogs and Crimson Tide are both expected to contend for the conference title.

The perfect example of a defining game is this one. It will let us know early on if Alabama is a serious candidate or a pretender.

At Missouri: Oct. 11

The components of a trap game are included in this game.

It falls between two crucial games against Vanderbilt (October 4) and Tennessee (October 18), where Alabama will try to exact revenge for 2024 defeats. Additionally, it’s an away game against a team that is thought to be inferior than the Crimson Tide. A season ago, Alabama had trouble in some of those away games against Vanderbilt and Oklahoma.

Although this game is unlikely to rank among Alabama’s finest, a victory would demonstrate the Crimson Tide’s ability to dominate in matchups that are designed to cause an upset.

LSU: Nov. 8

Another game with conference and CFP implications is anticipated.

This game will probably rank among Alabama’s best victories on the resume if they win. If this game is lost, it might spell the difference between traveling to Atlanta and staying home to watch the conference final on Saturday. Additionally, it might affect playoff berths.

The two games that have the greatest chance of defining the Alabama season are this one and Georgia.

Oklahoma: Nov. 15

Alabama must turn around the next week and get ready for a Sooners squad that should be better than it was a season ago after what looks to be a difficult game against LSU. Once more, the combination of offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle and quarterback John Mateer has the potential to yield enormous benefits. After a successful season at Washington State, where they had an attack that averaged 36.8 points per game, which was 12th in the country, Mateer and Arbuckle joined the Sooners this offseason. Oklahoma might be a contender in the SEC if they can duplicate their top 20 defense from the previous campaign.

In Norman a season ago, a struggling Oklahoma team caused Alabama a lot of problems as the Crimson Tide lost 24–3. Even in Bryant-Denny Stadium, an improved Sooners team might pose an even greater threat.

Alabama should be put to the test in this game.

At Auburn: Nov. 29

Ignore the CFP and the SEC standings. It’s the Iron Bowl. In-state bragging rights are important.

Even though Alabama may have goals beyond winning the Iron Bowl, this game is still important. This outcome on the Plains will be discussed in some way when the 2025 season is remembered. Particularly if the Crimson Tide is defeated.

Honorable mention: Vanderbilt, South Carolina, and Florida State
