Illness derails iconic country music couple’s milestone Grand Ole Opry celebration

Due to the illness of both her husband, fellow country music great Marty Stuart, and herself, country music queen Connie Smith will not be celebrating the 60th anniversary of her Grand Ole Opry induction this week.

Fans were informed of the news through a statement posted on Smith’s Instagram.

According to the statement, Connie Smith’s 60th anniversary as an Opry member will be celebrated tomorrow night at the Grand Ole Opry, but the event has to be postponed. We’re excited to hear from the amazing roster of performers tomorrow night and hope to reschedule this soon!

She also released an Opry statement.

Even though we were thrilled to join the legendary Connie Smith tomorrow night to commemorate 60 years of Grand Ole Opry membership, Connie and her husband Marty Stuart had to cancel their appearances on the show because, as Marty stated, COVID is an unwanted presence in our home. At a later date that will be revealed soon, we hope to celebrate Connie’s 60th birthday with her (with Marty by her side). Additionally, Marty will postpone his performance in Louisville that was originally scheduled for this Saturday.

Smith’s message was inundated with good wishes and prayers from fans.

Connie, I hope your family gets well soon! Someone wrote.

Another person commented, “I’ve been listening to Connice since 1964.” I’ll be praying for you to get well quickly.

Another person wrote, “Prayers for you both.” COVID is serious and appears to be here to stay.

Another person added, “I hope you have a speedy recovery and send many sweet prayers to you.” God has you.
