Taylor Hicks, a country-soul artist from Birmingham, just made his first political appearance by supporting Republican Senator Tommy Tuberville for governor of Alabama in 2026.
On Alabama’s Morning News with JT on Tuesday, Hicks, who gained notoriety after winning the fifth season of the singing competition show American Idol in 2006, gave an explanation for his choice.
I’m fully supporting Senator Tuberville because I think he’s the best candidate for governor of Alabama,” he remarked.
It’s been ten or fifteen years since I first met Coach, Senator Tuberville. First and foremost, we must remember that he is an educator. He was an Auburn coach, as you are aware. He taught at Auburn University.
Hicks believes Tuberville would use his experience to make education a top priority for the state.
“I think that strengthening education is one of the things that I like about some of his ideas for the state,” he remarked.
I perform and visit schools across the nation, and I believe that we Alabamans need to look at education and make sure that we are taking good care of our children. Coach will probably do it.
Hicks made special mention of giving liberal arts education and education in rural areas, such as the Wiregrass section of the state, priority.
He stated, “I believe it’s crucial to look after all of our children and make sure they receive the best education possible.”
And Tommy Turberville seems like the ideal candidate for it, in my opinion.Because of education, Alabama has long been the target of numerous jokes. Oh, we’re number 49. Thank heavens for Mississippi and all that stuff.
He added, “But we’re making a lot of strides, things like the Focus Act.”
They are undoubtedly attempting to enhance education in our state.
Hicks also mentioned his expectations that Tuberville will defend Alabama farmers and that Huntsville’s military capabilities would be protected and even expanded thanks to the senator’s relationship with President Donald Trump.
Hicks declared, “I believe he is the best candidate for governor.”
In addition, he enjoys playing golf, is a kind guy, and has a fantastic sense of humor.
