Alabama-born music legend safe after Beverly Hills mansion burglarized while he was home

According to authorities, a person who is suspected of breaking into Lionel Richie’s estate in Beverly Hills has been taken into custody. Richie was reportedly inside his house when the crime occurred.

Early Friday morning, according to NBC Los Angeles, Beverly Hills Police Department officers were called to the singer-songwriter’s 90210 neighbor in Tuskegee.

Shortly after midnight, they got an emergency call regarding a possible intrusion on the premises.

After police swiftly secured the area, suspect Michael Bond was found during a follow-up neighborhood sweep.The 38-year-old was arrested a few blocks from Richie’s house, close to Wilshire Boulevard and Beverly Glen. He is accused of domestic burglary on one count.

The 76-year-old Grammy winner was home when the break-in occurred, according to police, but no injuries were recorded. The security alert deterred the would-be burglar, who ran away without stealing anything.

Investigators are still going over the CCTV footage from Friday morning that shows the incident, sources told NBC L.A.

Richie thanked law officers for their swift response and the suspect’s speedy arrest in a statement to the station.
