Note from the editor: This is an analysis.
Throughout camp, the Alabama coaching staff made hints about it.
Their hints pointed to Ty Simpson as the starter, although they did not explicitly name him. You only needed to pay attention.
Ryan Grubb, offensive coordinator, July 31: Ty is still displaying a great deal of command. He performed better today than the other two guys, in my opinion. He keeps getting better as a leader.
On August 4, quarterbacks coach Nick Sheridan: Presence and command. simply taking responsibility for what we’re asking him to do. Throughout his career, you have witnessed that ongoing development. Ty and I have been friends for a while. His general maturity and attention to detail.
Grubb on August 5: Except for Ty, every guy has been receiving ones, twos, and threes. The only one who isn’t doing any three reps is him.
Every time, Grubb and Sheridan sounded as though they were describing a starter. Someone who was headed to take the lead in this attack. According to those with knowledge of the situation, Simpson’s selection as the starting quarterback on Monday was therefore not shocking. Beginning with the game against Florida State on August 30, Simpson will have the first opportunity to start at quarterback.
Simpson was given the chance to start since he played the part throughout the spring and camp.
The coaching staff, of course, initiated that process by declaring at the end of spring that Simpson would start if the season started at that time. Simpson lost the job because of that, but he didn’t.
He went and got the job, more than that. You only need to see at this past Saturday’s first scrimmage.
AL.com spoke with several analysts who praised the former five-star prospect. Simpson once passed to Isaiah Horton in a long pass. In another instance, he made a clever throw and maintained a play by displaying his slipperiness.
Despite everything, he still had the same appearance.Greg McElroy, a former quarterback for Alabama, said as much on WJOX Monday morning after witnessing the scrimmage.
“He looks very in control,” McElroy said.
both in the quarterback competition and on the field. Throughout the competition, Simpson never lost his grip. As a result, he won every day of spring practice and training camp in addition to this past Saturday.
“Can you sustain it?” was the question Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer asked his team at the beginning of camp.Shortly after, Simpsons received the same challenge from Grubb, albeit in different wording. Simpson couldn’t coast to the top and get the job, but the coaching staff showed him the way.
Between now and Florida State, when we begin that preparation, he must do it daily, Grubb stated. Whoever that individual is must come forward and be able to prove that it is him. This football squad needs that.
That’s what it had. The Alabama coaches were clearly aware of this.
You only needed to pay attention.
