This week, the city of Jackson is in shock following the death of Shermya Gamble, a 16-year-old high school student.

Just one week into her junior year, Gamble was murdered Tuesday morning in a single vehicle accident while traveling to school, Jackson Police informed WKRG.

We will sincerely miss her presence and infectious spirit, the high school writes in a Facebook post.

We send our deepest sympathies and thoughts to her family and friends during this difficult time.

The Jackson High School Family has been grieving since yesterday morning because we are so devastated by…

According to her obituary, Gamble was a member of the JHS Ensemble, Future Business Leaders of America, Distributive Education Clubs of America, Aggie Singers, and The Sound of the Aggie Nation’s Color Guard.

It reads that her warmth, talent, and light were the only things that overwhelmed her presence and infectious energy.

She was an exceptionally talented singer who infused every room she entered with joy and vitality, and she was a remarkable dancer whose elegance and passion were evident. Every circle was improved by her presence. Everyone who knew her will always carry her legacy in their hearts.

Her brother Isaac Gamble, sisters Tonia (Shamar) Jenkins and Kalia King, and parents Pamela Darrington and Sherman Gamble (Shandricka Barnes) survive Gamble.

We may never find the right words to describe how deeply our hearts are aching today, darling daughter. Your death…

In a Facebook post, Gamble’s aunt Latosha Pritchett wrote, “Our hearts are so heavy today baby girl, and maybe one day we will find the words to express just how much.”

Our entire community was impacted by your death. People were affected by you in that way. I firmly believe that God chooses the best.

Although you will always be missed, today is your day. And Pritchett went on.

Rest up, sweetie. TT will always and forever adore you. Your mother, father, sisters, and the whole Darrington/Gamble family are in our prayers.

This week, in honor of Gamble, students from Jackson High School and the neighboring Clarke County High School wore purple, one of the JHS school colors.
