One of the William F. Green State Veterans Home’s most illustrious residents, World War II veteran Silas Pope, turned 101 today, and the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs and its employees celebrated his milestone birthday with pride.
Mr. Pope was honored with cupcakes, music, and touching tributes to his life and military service by staff, family, and other residents. In recognition of Pope’s service to our wonderful country, Governor Kay Ivey also gave him a commendation for his time in the U.S. Marine Corps.
