From the Department of Alabama
of Transportation
urges drivers to practice safe driving
(Montgomery, Ala.) As traffic loads are predicted to increase around the state for the upcoming Fourth of July holiday weekend, the Alabama Department of Transportation is advising drivers to drive carefully and prepare ahead of time.
ALDOT will not temporarily close any interstate lanes from noon on Thursday, July 3, until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, July 6, in order to maintain the safe and effective flow of holiday traffic. The purpose of the interim suspension is to safeguard drivers as well as maintenance and construction workers.
Get rid of distractionsAvoid distractions like texting, scrolling, or talking on the phone to keep your attention on the road. ALDOT reminds drivers of the hands-free law in Alabama. According to this law, drivers are not allowed to hold electronic gadgets while driving.
Hold on tight. The best defense against severe injuries in an accident is still wearing a seat belt. Make sure everyone in the car is correctly fastened to their seat belts at all times.
Don’t drive while intoxicated.Never operate a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any other substance that affects your reaction time. You and everyone else on the road are protected when you drive sober.
Reduce your speed.Speeding makes it more difficult to dodge sudden hazards and raises the chance of serious injury or death. Be mindful of posted speed restrictions and make adjustments for weather, traffic, and road conditions.
Alabama traffic and road condition information, including real-time traffic feeds, can be found by drivers planning their vacation itinerary on ALGOTraffic.com or by downloading the ALGO Traffic app. ALDOT encourages drivers to use ALGO Traffic sensibly.
