Throughout fall camp, Auburn’s football defense has proven to be unbeatable.
Throughout camp, the Tigers secondary as a whole has advanced some of the most, and the cornerbacks are setting the standard for that group.
The first team workouts have been dominated by Jay Crawford and junior Kayin Lee, who also set the tone for the other players in the room.
The competition is fierce. DJ Durkin, the defensive coordinator at Auburn, stated, “Those guys are doing good, but there’s a room full of guys that are competing.” It’s fantastic that we have several transfers and young individuals. I adore it. It has been fantastic that we have competitive reps at practice, basically everywhere. Competition is the best coaching tool.
Among the defense’s recent arrivals, Raion Strader and Rayshawn Pleasant have also made an impression.
Lee and Strader, a transfer from Maryland, have switched between first and second team reps. During his first practice from an ankle injury last week, Pleasant, a transfer from Tulane, made an impression.
Despite the early success in camp, cornerbacks coach Wesley McGriff discussed how he is maintaining his room’s modesty.
They recognize the significance of maintaining the trend. How crucial each representative is. It is a pleasure to see them. We will not permit them to believe that we have reached our destination because we have not. “You know how tough this league is, so we have to prepare for competition,” McGriff stated. In this league, your greatest adversary is yourself. They don’t have that attitude, which pleases me.
With nine scholarship players rotating through the wide receiver corps, Auburn’s offense is loaded. Before practice, McGriff says his team works on all of them in film sessions.
The defensive backs performed better than the wideouts in Auburn’s one-on-one redzone lockout drill last week, giving up only Cam Coleman and Bryce Cain for scores.
Instead of waiting until Saturday to see [Eric Singleton], you would prefer to see him during the week. Instead of just going to the game and seeing Cam Coleman on the roster, you would prefer to see him during the week. According to McGriff, it would be better for you to see [Horatio Fields] now and have the opportunity to drill against him occasionally before Saturday. You glance over there. Who will you double up on? Therefore, having those individuals on the roster is incredibly beneficial.
The media will watch practice when Auburn takes the field again on Thursday morning.During fall camp, AL.com will keep an eye on the Tiger defense.
