On Wednesday morning, the USGA presented Jackson Koivun, the outstanding golfer for Auburn University, with the Mark H. McCormack Medal for being the best male player in the 2025 World Amateur Golf Rankings.
Koivun is granted exemptions to the 154th Open at Royal Birkdale and the 126th U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills next year.
Koivun had strong showings in a number of tournaments this summer. He shot 14-under to tie for fifth place at the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club, tied for sixth at the ISCO Championship, and tied for 11th at the John Deere Classic.
“Winning this award is a great honor,” Koivun stated. It’s a dream come true, and I am incredibly appreciative of everyone who has supported me. Every amateur golfer aspires to win this medal. Everyone is thinking about it, so you just try to fight and keep playing good. It is quite amazing to be able to claim that I am a McCormack Medal winner.
On September 15th, Auburn’s golf season kicks off with the Invitational at the Honors Course.
At the Walker Cup, which will take place at Cypress Point Club in Pebble Beach, California, from September 6–7, Koivun will be the first Auburn player to represent the United States.
