About the hosts

Geoff Herbert, a reporter, SEO Lead, and content supervisor for Syracuse.com | The Post-Standard, was born with a serious binaural hearing loss. Although he is mostly deaf in both ears, he has 25 years of DJing experience, including 10 years on radio (as DeafGeoff), where he received recognition from the WJPZ Radio Hall of Fame, and 10 years as a DJ at weddings in Upstate New York. He adopted assistive technologies such as closed captioning/subtitles, video calls, and visual waveforms in music programs after learning how to interact orally through speech therapy, lipreading, and hearing aids.

With more than 35 years of experience at Advance Local, Kurt Hower is a community and media leader. In addition to serving on numerous boards, such as the Central PA Chapter Arthritis Foundation Board of Directors, where he was Chairman of Board Development and a member of the Public Policy and Advocacy Committee, he has been actively involved in spearheading change as the print industry has continued to undergo rapid change. Hower, who has ankylosing spondylitis, a rare condition that results in arthritis of the spine, urges people to put their problems aside and concentrate on the positive contributions they may make to society.
