Eric Rudolph manhunt podcast, Bruce Pearl and politics: Down in Alabama

Published On:

Today, we’re making an announcement on the Down in Alabama podcast. We will discuss American Shrapnel, a brand-new eight-episode podcast that will be available on AL.com.It centers on the pursuit for Eric Rudolph, the 1996 Olympic Park bomber who detonated an abortion facility in Birmingham. On the DIA podcast, producer John Hammontree and columnist John Archibald will join me to discuss American Shrapnel and other related situations.

Here is today’s report.

The political buzz surrounding Bruce Pearl

The speculation between Auburn basketball coach Bruce Pearl and the U.S. Senate seat that former Auburn football coach Tommy Tuberville is leaving up is something we haven’t discussed here since it has already descended into buzz-and-rumor area.

Pearl’s support for President Trump and/or conservative causes has evolved from his regular social media posts regarding his support for Israel. Actually, Pearl is more likely to post about politics than basketball during this off-season.

Pearl hasn’t expressed interest in the Senate position himself. However, he hasn’t taken advantage of the chance to close the door on it either. AL.com reached out to him for comment, but he did not reply. In response to a question about it on the One Jewish State podcast, he stated that there is no news to report and that although he cares about these issues, he loves Auburn and being the basketball coach there.

That doesn’t really put an end to the discussion.

Roy S. Johnson, a columnist for AL.com, discussed the scuttlebutt with Charles Barkley, an icon of Auburn basketball. And it seems to have come up between Sir Charles and Pearl.

“I respect and trust him,” Barkley said to Johnson. I simply told him to follow his own desires. He has undoubtedly made Auburn basketball relevant, which pleases me. Even though I like you as Auburn’s head basketball coach, I have to admit that I never saw you leading Auburn to two Final Fours, but I do understand.

I will be fully behind him if he decides to run.

(Do you recall when Barkley made fun of everyone by claiming to be a candidate for governor years ago?)

Until Pearl makes it clear that it is nothing, it seems like the Pearl thing will happen. or files to execute.

More reasons to adore Rocket City

According to Scott Turner of AL.com, Huntsville’s city limits currently encompass portions of four counties.

The annexation of approximately 1,014 acres in Morgan and Marshall counties south of the Tennessee River was approved by the city on Thursday. Of course, Madison and Limestone counties make up the largest portion of Huntsville.

There is just one single-family home on the property, and no additional homes are planned, according to Thomas Nunez, the city manager of planning and zoning services.

Huntsville was petitioned to annex the land by Wiz Kidz LLC and Smyrna Ready Mix Concrete LLC. It enables the city to control the quarry in Smyrna.

Huntsville is now the 37th largest city in the US in terms of area, having acquired more than 1,600 acres this year. The Rocket City is around the size of San Francisco and Chicago.

Regarding that Amber warning

On Thursday afternoon, you might have gotten an Amber Alert on your phone. According to Carol Robinson of AL.com, it was for Jibreel Harun, age three, who had gone missing from Auburn.

When authorities discovered the remains of the child’s mother, 34-year-old Tyeisha Williams, and 13-year-old Zynniya Wright in their Auburn home, he was reported missing.

Aaron Dontay Williams, Williams’ husband and the father of toddler Jibreel, is wanted by the police. They claimed that he is not the adolescent girl’s father.

Williams has connections to the Huntsville region and a criminal past. According to the police, he might be using a gray 2010 Honda Accord. Police have characterized the 41-year-old Black man, who is 6 feet 1 inch and weighs 240 pounds, as armed and dangerous.

A $15,000 reward is being offered by the FBI and Crime Stoppers. Contact the Auburn Police Department or 911 if you have any information.

Flags were lowered.

According to Heather Gann of AL.com, Governor Kay Ivey approved the flying of flags at half-staff for the duration of the weekend.

The order, which expires Monday before daybreak, is in remembrance of the Texas Hill Country flood victims from last week. One of the 27 people slain at Camp Mystic was 8-year-old Sarah Marsh of Mountain Brook. Eddie Santana Sr. and his wife, Ileana, of Mobile, as well as their 5-year-old granddaughter, Mila Rosa Santana, are among the several people who remain unaccounted for.
