Former Auburn defensive tackle makes quick return to the NFL

After being cut by the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, the former Auburn defensive tackle Philip Blidire made his NFL comeback on Tuesday when the New England Patriots announced his signing.

After being passed over in the 2025 draft, Blidi inked a contract with the Titans on May 9.

Blidi did not play in Friday night’s 23–20 preseason victory against the Atlanta Falcons, although he did play 12 defensive snaps in the Titans’ 29–7 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on August 9.

Blidi cleared waivers on Monday and was signed by New England.

Blidi attended Auburn for one season. The defensive lineman played in 12 games for the Tigers in 2024, including seven starts, and recorded 21 tackles, one sack, and one fumble recovery. Blidi played at Texas Tech from 2020 to 2022 and Indiana in 2023 before to joining Auburn.

On Thursday night, New England will play the New York Giants in their final preseason game.

Former Carver-Montgomery standout defensive tackle Jereme Robinson was traded for Blidi’s comeback to the NFL.

After being passed over in the 2025 NFL Draft, Robinson joined the Chicago Bears on May 8 after spending five seasons at Kansas. On July 22, however, Robinson was waived by the Bears. When Chicago signed defensive lineman Tanoh Kpassagnon, an eight-year NFL veteran, Robinson was dismissed.

Robinson was signed by the Patriots on August 10. In New England’s 20–12 preseason victory over the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday, he was on the field for two special teams plays.
