ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports that Robby Ashford, a Hoover native and former Auburn player, has been selected as Wake Forest’s starting quarterback.
Ashford spent the 2024 season at South Carolina before transferring to Wake Forest in January. He began his undergraduate career at Oregon and played for Auburn for two seasons before that.
During the 2022 and 2023 seasons, Ashford started 10 games for the Tigers and threw for 1,758 yards, nine touchdowns, and nine interceptions. During his time at Auburn, he also gained 927 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground.
Rob Ezell, Wake Forest’s first-year offensive coordinator, played for Nick Saban at Alabama from 2007 to 2010. At Alabama, Ezell also served as an offensive assistant, graduate assistant, and student assistant, among other coaching positions.
On August 29, Ashford will play his debut game with the Demon Deacons when they host Kennesaw State.
