Help send Alabama youth choir to ‘America’s Got Talent’ quarterfinals, see them perform

Before they compete on America’s Got Talent next month, Birmingham locals will get the opportunity to witness this gifted kids choir and cheer them on as they go west.

The Heights Event and Entertainment Center, located at 4016 Avenue I in Birmingham, will host the Birmingham Youth and Young Adult Fellowship Choir’s performance of Raise the Praise: A Golden Sendoff on Sunday. At 3 p.m., the show starts. Tickets cost ten dollars.

In addition to the choir, there will be vendors and special guests at the show. The performance serves to earn money for the choir’s return trip to California, where they will face off against national performers in a live competition.

The kids choir advanced directly to the quarterfinals round of America’s Got Talent, which aired on NBC on September 9, after winning a golden buzzer on the July 8 show of season 20.

Founded in 2015, the group includes a number of pupils from Birmingham City Schools.

The group’s founder and director, Akheem Lee, stated, “I’m really excited after ten years of a lot of hard work, dedication, and sacrifice.” The choir was initially established as a one-time event, but God had other ideas, and many young people in the city wanted to be involved. As a result, we continued, and ten years later, we are still in existence.

In an effort to generate money for school supplies, Lee and two of his buddies founded the choir. The choir continued after their first back-to-school concert went well.

According to the group’s ticket sales website, the group’s goal is to give young people a creative environment in which they can hone their musical abilities while sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The trio received a standing ovation for their performance, which amazed the judges and spectators. When the group received the golden buzzer from notoriously picky judge Simon Cowell, the audience members who supported the choir gathered on stage.

Cowell stated during the July 8 program that that was significant. I could hear and see the amount of effort that went into this. You all did a fantastic job, and I am so grateful that you came to celebrate our 20th anniversary.

The group will participate in a semifinal round that will telecast on September 16 and 17 if they make it past the quarterfinal round. The competition’s last round will telecast on September 23 and 24.

NBC will broadcast the event live, and Peacock will stream it the following day. At 7 p.m., the episode airs.
