Hugh Freeze admits need to ‘calm down’ after hat-slamming incident with Jackson Arnold

Hugh Freeze, the coach of Auburn football, was frustrated during Thursday’s team’s twelfth fall camp practice.

Jackson Arnold, the starting quarterback, held onto the ball for too long as the Auburn offense moved into its redzone lockout 1-on-1 drill, which led to a couple misdirected throws from his receivers.

Cam Coleman was given a certain route concept by Freeze, but Arnold was unable to get the ball off, so he slammed his hat on the ground.

Freeze shouted at Arnold to get the ball in the end zone, clearly frustrated. He thought back on his response later.

Sometimes I have to cool down around quarterbacks. We execute it when we have the proper expectation, which is what I believe to be a realistic expectation. Now, Freeze stated that it might be the case if we haven’t adequately coached it when we go in there. We told him what? I’ll ask the QB staff. because it’s extremely irritating that we have him wide open and fail to throw the touchdown.

It’s difficult enough to score in this league, or any game for that matter, but when you do, you want to watch us do it. And that’s annoying,” Freeze continued.

Three weeks into camp, Freeze thinks the offense has settled into a rhythm. Beginning on Monday, Auburn will switch to a game week schedule and practice live against one another.

I’m proud of the effort. Freeze stated, “I think we still have to make sure from this point forward that what we do is at a high, high, high percentage, but I’m still really confident we can be a really good offense because of the community and connection that our team is making.”

“The next two weeks will be treated like a Friday game,” Freeze continued. We will have a live period on Monday because, in my opinion, one area in which we still need to improve as a defense is the management of the rush lanes.
