At Huntsville International Airport, July was the busiest month ever for travel.

The airport has broken the record for the third consecutive month. In July, the airport handled 168,281 passengers, 16.7% more than in July 2024 (144,250).There were 160,455 passengers in June 2025 and 156,967 in May 2025.

Additionally, compared to the same period last year, passenger traffic has climbed by 6.5% for the calendar year to date.In 2023 (1,473,629) and 2024 (1,635,589), Huntsville International Airport achieved yearly passenger records.

Having more seats available for purchase, more flights, daily nonstop service to Orlando on Breeze Airways, daily nonstop service to New York City on Delta Air Lines, and the return of twice weekly nonstop service to Los Angeles (LAX) on Breeze are some of the factors that airport management credits with the increase in passenger traffic.

Allegiant Air just revealed three new nonstop routes from Huntsville: Sanford/Orlando on February 12, 2026; Fort Lauderdale on November 19, 2026; and St. Pete/Clearwater (PIE) on March 5, 2026.

With 17.7% of all passengers traveling through Huntsville, Washington, D.C., is the most popular destination. At 8.2%, Orlando comes in second, followed by Houston at 6.3%, Dallas at 6.3%, Denver at 5.9%, Las Vegas at 4.7%, and Los Angeles (LAX) at 4.7%.

Butch Roberts, the CEO of the airport, stated in earlier interviews with AL.com that the increase in traffic is due to the increase in leisure travel since the COVID-19 pandemic. According to airport officials, business travelers made about 70% of all airport traffic before the pandemic. According to Roberts, the ratio of business to leisure traffic was roughly 50% to 50% a few years ago.

Government travel still accounts for a sizable portion of passenger travel, with Washington, D.C., and Houston ranking top and third, respectively.
