Huntsville police standoff ends with armed suspect’s surrender

According to the Huntsville Police Department, a standoff in Huntsville on Sunday ended after several hours when a suspect turned himself in and no one was hurt.

Police reported that at approximately 1:30 p.m., officers were called to the scene of gunfire. When officers discovered gunfire in an apartment in the 4400 block of Patton Road, they concluded that the source was a nearby unit across the breezeway.

The alleged shooter was identified as 38-year-old Edward Deon White. According to a police statement, White refused to speak with officers when they tried to reach him. He was armed and dangerous, according to the evidence; more resources were asked for.

According to a statement from the Huntsville Police Department, White was contacted by members of the Crisis Response and Negotiations Team, but communication finally ceased. According to the statement, the SWAT Team of the Huntsville Police Department subsequently went to the house and gave White verbal orders to turn himself in. White obeyed and was securely taken into jail.

White is accused of firing a gun into a building that was occupied.
