IKEA announced Monday that it will open its first full-size shop in Alabama near Huntsville in early 2026.
It will be situated at 6125 University Place Dr. in Huntsville, which is the University Place Shopping Center.
The location is conveniently accessible by I-565 and is located on University Drive, right off Research Park Boulevard. According to a press release, it is close to the Bridge Street Town Center and MidCity.
Javier Quiones, CEO and chief sustainability officer of IKEA U.S., stated, “We are excited to open our first store in Alabama to bring the dream of a better home within reach of more people across the country.”

When a Facebook user shared a purported conversation with an online IKEA help bot in July, rumors of an IKEA store near Huntsville started to circulate.
Although the furniture chain hasn’t yet announced a Huntsville location, the chat stated that the store’s layout and launch date were still being decided.
IKEA’s plans for Huntsville were unclear at the time.

Since 2011, IKEA has been one of Huntsville’s most sought-after retailers.
What can you expect?
The 46,000-square-foot Huntsville site will feature a range of fully furnished room configurations. A carefully chosen selection of over 2,000 items will be available for quick takeout out of the more than 5,000 products that will be on display. The full IKEA collection, including larger items like mattresses and couches, can be ordered online with free in-store pickup or paid home delivery. By choosing IKEA Huntsville as their preferred pick-up location at checkout, online consumers will have the option to pick up qualified IKEA-USA.com goods.

Customers can meet one-on-one with knowledgeable IKEA planners in the store’s central planning area for customized design consultations for bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, small space living, and other areas. A range of hot and cold IKEA staples, including meatballs, plant balls, veggie dogs, plant dogs, cinnamon buns, and more, will be available for in-store consumption or to take home for later. Of course, there will also be the Swedish culinary experience.
Additionally, the store will have an As-Is section with gently worn goods, discontinued merchandise, and even more reasonably priced furniture.
