Kansas State QB’s dad, brother fight each other after loss: ‘Senseless bickering escalated’

Avery Johnson’s brother and father, who were seen fighting after Kansas State’s 24-21 defeat to Iowa State in Dublin, have issued a statement.

We deeply regret what we did after yesterday’s football match in Ireland, the statement said, according to On3. A pointless argument turned into an unneeded altercation. We accept full responsibility for our actions and have put our disputes behind us.

We apologize to Kansas State University, its alumni, and its supporters after apologizing to our immediate and extended families. We are dedicated to making sure that this situation doesn’t occur again, and we regret it and have learned from it. We sincerely apologize about this.

The aforementioned video was shared on social media.

With eight minutes remaining, Kansas State was behind 17–14 and had a fourth and 1 at their 30-yard line. Avery Johnson missed to convert after rolling out to the left.

After taking control on downs, Iowa State extended the advantage with four more plays.

Rocco Becht helped No. 22 Iowa State defeat No. 17 Kansas State 24–21 in the Aer Lingus Classic by passing for two touchdowns and running for another.

Becht had 183 yards at 14 for 28. In the first quarter, he hit Dominic Overby for a 23-yard touchdown pass; in the third quarter, he tossed to Brett Eskildsen for a 24-yard score. Iowa State attempted a fourth-and-three from the Kansas State 16-yard line with 2:26 remaining. Becht iced the game after finding Carson Hansen for 15 yards.
