The name of a guy slain in a gunshot in central Birmingham has been made public by authorities.
Taevon Jamir Arnold was identified as the victim by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office. He resided in Kimberly and was 31 years old.
There is a suspect in custody.
Surveillance footage showed the shooting, which also injured a lady. It took place on Friday shortly before 6 p.m.
About eight males were seen loitering on the sidewalk between First and Second avenues on 14th Street North in the footage.
Shots were heard as the suspect moved to the center of the roadway during what seemed to be some sort of encounter.
The footage did not show if the victim really fired rounds prior to being shot, but he did brandish a gun.
At least eighteen shell casings were noted by police in the vicinity of the shooting.
After being transported to the hospital, Arnold was declared deceased at 11:13 p.m. on Friday.
North Precinct police were called to the site at 5:50 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire in the area of First Avenue North and 14th Street, according to Officer Truman Fitzgerald.
When they got there, they discovered the injured people close to the Marathon gas station.
According to the preliminary inquiry, the bullets were fired as a result of an incident between the suspect and the two victims.
We would like to postpone discussing the specifics of that encounter, Fitzgerald stated.
Fitzgerald stated that there were no signs linking the shooting to the Church of the Reconciler, but he was unsure if the suspect or the victims had attended services there.
Rather than the church, the gunshot took place nearer First Avenue North.
According to Fitzgerald, the only reason we can bring up Church of the Reconciler is because our command staff has been getting a lot of complaints about criminal behavior and other kinds of activities going on.
Our command staff was aware of the issue and made every effort to resolve it, he said, adding that we have sent a lot of resources to the region in an effort to reduce the criminal activities.
About nine in the morning on Saturday, the suspect was taken into custody by the Department’s Crime Reduction Team, according to Officer Truman Fitzgerald.
