The 2025 high school football season in Coastal Alabama is off to a great start thanks to a number of spectacular Friday night finishes and numerous outstanding individual performances.

Readers can vote for the Cunningham Bounds Coastal Alabama Football Player of the Week once more this year.

Coaches can nominate players before noon on Saturdays or submit statistics after their games on Friday nights.

An official team statistician or coach must make the nomination. They can be sent to [email protected] via email.

The deadline to vote is Wednesday morning. AL.com will reveal the winner on Thursday.

The Week 1 nominees are as follows:

Brayden Clifton, Saraland: Against a formidable Jackson, Clifton commanded a cunning Spartan defense. In front of an overflowing audience, Saraland caused five turnovers, including his two fumble recoveries.

Micah Hardy, Robertsdale: In the Golden Bears’ victory over LeFlore, Hardy ran for 175 yards and a touchdown on 25 runs.

Kemarkys Howard, Citronelle: As the Wildcats easily defeated Millry, Howard rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns on just 12 carries.

Anthony Tank Jones Jr., St. Paul’s: The Saints defeated rival UMS-Wright 29-28 thanks to the decisive touchdown and 2-point conversion in overtime, which were scored by the Oregon 5-star senior.

Gunner Rivers, St. Michael: In a 41-10 thumping of Bayside Academy, the junior quarterback started the season with five touchdown passes. He had 255 yards on 25 of 34 passes.

Christian Segar, Daphne: Daphne defeated McGill-Toolen in a thrilling 29-28 victory, as Segar threw for 179 yards and three touchdowns in his Trojan debut. With eight seconds remaining, Segar’s 31-yard touchdown pass to C.J. Gardner put the Trojans within 28-27. They won on a two-point conversion.

Aaden Shamburger, Spanish Fort: The South Alabama commit rushed for 97 yards on 11 rushes and went 10-of-19 for 112 yards in the air.

Cottage Hill’s Shamar Toodle ran eight times for 89 yards and a touchdown in the Warriors’ victory over Washington County. Toodle also went 19-of-23 for 234 yards and three touchdowns.

Jailen Speedy Baker, Wheeler:Wheeler ran for 184 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries, helping the Hornets defeat the rival Bobcats by scoring twice in the closing minutes. In addition, he had a 9-yard receiving touchdown.
