Philadelphia Eagles get the diagnosis for Pro Bowl guard’s injury

Although the news of guard Landon Dickerson’s injury to the Philadelphia Eagles wasn’t ideal, it might have been far worse.

During Sunday night’s NFL team’s public practice at Lincoln Financial Field, where a sellout crowd attended the Eagles Autism Foundation benefit, the former Alabama All-American hobbled off the field with help.

Dickerson was on a cart into the tunnel on his way to the locker room when the audience last saw him.

Dickerson would require surgery on his right knee, according to reports from the Philadelphia Inquirer, ESPN, and NFL Network on Monday. However, this might not keep him from playing in Philadelphia’s season-opening game against the Dallas Cowboys on September 4. In order to repair a meniscus injury, surgery is required.

Dickerson, the Eagles’ left guard since joining Philadelphia in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft, was named to the Pro Bowl in each of the previous three seasons, two of which concluded in the Super Bowl. The Eagles’ 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on February 9 to end the 2024 NFL season was one of those seasons.

In Super Bowl LIX, Dickerson persevered despite suffering a left knee injury.

Dickerson won the Rimington Trophy as the country’s top center for Alabama’s undefeated CFP national championship team in 2020 and was unanimously named an All-American.

During that season’s SEC Championship Game, Dickerson tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. In 2016, while attending Florida State, Dickerson tore his ACL in his right knee.

The Eagles defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 34-27 on Thursday night to begin their three-game preseason schedule. Dickerson didn’t participate in the match. In the preseason game, Brett Toth, a four-year veteran with two career starts, began for Philadelphia at left guard.

The Eagles’ second preseason game against the Cleveland Browns is scheduled for Saturday at Lincoln Financial Field at noon CDT.
