The Prattville Independence Day festivities began earlier today with a procession that started at the Autauga County Courthouse, traveled through downtown’s historic district, and ended at the recently refurbished Stanley-Jensen Stadium.
A sizable audience cheers on persons riding floats that are full with people tossing candy or souvenirs. This year’s Grand Marshall, John Blumentritt, a veteran of the Air Force, professor at a university, and ardent fan of vintage cars, led the procession. The enthusiastic audience cheered for the vibrantly adorned floats as the parade went on, gathering up toys and other treats that had been thrown.
The crowd dispersed to Pratt Park, where the Lions Club was holding their yearly Barbecue sale, after the parade. They were joined by numerous other vendors who showcased their businesses, sold their items, and provided snacks. Some traveled to Pratt Pool to participate in the thrilling and aqueous Cardboard Boat Race.
In order to race across the pool without sinking, participants had to construct boats out of cardboard, pool noodles, and duct tape. There were winners in several categories, albeit not all were successful. The competitors were urged to the finish line by a lot of cheering.
There will be further celebrations if you were unable to attend this morning’s events!
Tonight, the Alex Walker Band will be performing at the Rock the Lot concert in the Academy parking lot at 6:30 p.m. Get your fireworks fix at 8:30 p.m., when they are launched from the clock tower.
The City of Prattville encourages everyone to celebrate responsibly, whether they choose to dance the night away at Rock the Lot or simply sit and watch the fireworks. Stay cool, stay safe, and enjoy your Fourth of July!
