A Chilton County Grand Jury indicted Thorsby resident Corey Oliver on one count of first-degree rape in March 2024. A Chilton County jury found 41-year-old Corey Oliver guilty after the trial started on Monday and continued through Wednesday.

Oliver raped his victim at knifepoint, choked her, and beat her while they were dating.

Corey Oliver is a threat, according to District Attorney CJ Robinson. In addition to his roughly 40 arrests, which started with drug and property offenses and progressed to sexual acts of violence, he has more than 10 prior felony convictions. His name has been repeatedly on the dockets during my nearly two-decade career. The hug-a-thug jail reform tactics that afflicted Alabamans for almost a decade directly benefited Corey Oliver. We are grateful that we have just realized the need of empowering our judges, DAs, and law enforcement to safeguard the public. In his prior cases, the judges, probation officers, and prosecutors all carried out their duties in accordance with the law, but the final effect was that a criminal who ought to have been imprisoned was allowed to continue committing crimes and abusing women and children.

When we suspected Oliver of intimidating victims, who frequently modified their statements during court processes or refused to pursue charges, he slithered his way out of multiple prior charges. The victim in this case was identified by District Attorney Investigators (in collaboration with the Chilton County Sheriff’s Office) during a separate investigation into sexual assault on another victim. They also put her in touch with other DA Office staff, including our Victim Service Officer and our Assistant DAs, who did a fantastic job of fighting to ensure that Corey Oliver’s path of destruction is finally over.

We have faith that Judge Joy Booth will act in the best interests of the people of the 19th Circuit. I am eagerly anticipating his punishment. Circuit Judge Joy Booth is scheduled to sentence Corey Oliver on August 6.
