Severe storms possible today in Alabama: What to expect

Published On:

Much of Alabama might get isolated severe thunderstorms on Wednesday.

The majority of north Alabama and parts of central and southwestern Alabama are at a Level 1 out of 5 (marginal) risk for severe weather today, according to NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center.

The National Weather Service says that this afternoon through the evening is when storms are most likely to occur.

Forecasters predict that storms will begin to fade late tonight.

According to the weather service, a cold front will move into the state from the northwest today.

Storms could be triggered by it, and some of them might intensify.

Power lines and tree limbs might be brought down by wind gusts from the heaviest storms. No tornadoes are predicted.

The Storm Prediction Center says that although there is a risk of rain in Alabama on Thursday and into the weekend, severe weather is not yet anticipated after today.
