Tennessee teen dies while tubing in an Alabama river

While tubing on a river in north Alabama, a teen from Tennessee passed away.

The accident occurred on the Elk River off Wheeler Lake near Athens in Limestone County at approximately 2:00 p.m. on Monday.

The 17-year-old was in an inflatable tube being pushed by a SEADOO PWC, which was driven by another 17-year-old from Tennessee, according to Capt. Jeremy Burkett of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Kevin E. Burlison, 48, of Pulaski, Tennessee, operated a second SEADOO PWC that struck the victim after they fell from the tube.

Shortly after being transported to the hospital, the injured kid was declared dead.

The names of victims of juvenile fatalities are not made public by ALEA.
