Are you trying to find a nice pizza place in Alabama? There is a proposal from the Food Network that many people in the state would support.
Tortugas Homemade Pizza, a well-liked eatery with outlets in Hoover and Birmingham, was named the greatest spot to get a slice of pizza in Alabama in a recent Food Network piece titled “50 States of Pizza Slices,” which included the top pizza joints in each of the 50 states.
Over the course of its more than 25-year existence, Tortugas, which is well-known for its deep-dish, Chicago-style pizza, has won numerous accolades, including being named one of the 100 Dishes to Eat in Alabama Before You Die. It has also developed a devoted customer base throughout Alabama and the South.
According to the article posted on the Food Network website, Carlos and Carol [Vizcaino] first crossed paths in the 1980s when working at a Chicago pizza place.After getting married and starting a family, they moved to Birmingham with the intention of bringing the Magic City’s loaded pizza from the Windy City. Tortugas, which opened in 1999 and has since become Birmingham’s favorite pizzeria for luscious slices, was the Vizcainos’ dream come true. In 2017, Matt, the couple’s son, launched a second location since their hand-tossed pizza is so popular.
Although both locations provide thin-crust slices, choose the stuffed pie if you want a true taste of Chicago (local Chi-Town transplants say these pies are as near to home as it gets). The carne special, a crammed slice loaded with Italian sausage, pepperoni, Canadian bacon, and bacon, is a favorite at both locations.
Steve’s Pizza in Florida, Fellini’s Pizza in Georgia, Pizza Delicious in Louisiana, Five Points Pizza in Tennessee, and more eateries are also on the list.
