Trump may soon make a huge change in nation’s marijuana policy

In the next weeks, President Donald Trump plans to reschedule marijuana as a less harmful narcotic, he announced Monday.

Trump’s remarks to the press Monday followed the Wall Street Journal’s revelation that earlier this month, the president informed donors that he was thinking about reducing marijuana’s limitations by moving it from a Schedule I to a Schedule III narcotic.

According to Bloomberg, Trump told reporters, “I’ve heard great things about medical, and I’ve had bad things about just about everything else but medical.”

I’ve heard some fairly positive things about pain and other things, but I’ve also heard some pretty negative things about other things.

The Journal claims that when marijuana companies gave millions to Trump’s political campaign, he began to signal.

Trump’s statements throughout the 2024 campaign also suggested that he was thinking of reclassifying marijuana in order to loosen prohibitions on its use.

The change in federal policy would not completely legalize marijuana for recreational use. Rather, it would transfer marijuana, ketamine, and certain anabolic steroids from Schedule I to Schedule III.

The group Smart Approaches to Marijuana claims that attorneys general in over a dozen states and advocates who claim there is insufficient data are opposing the proposed change.
