2 Montgomery Residents Arrested following Vehicle Pursuit

On Friday June 13, 2025, a Millbrook police officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation at the intersection of Alabama Highway 143 and Alabama River Parkway. The vehicle refused to stop, continuing eastbound on Alabama River Parkway, reaching speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. The vehicle continued eastbound on Alabama River Parkway until reaching the toll bridge, where the vehicle executed a U-turn, proceeding westbound, again accelerating to speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, refusing to stop.

The vehicle, a 2022 Nissan sedan, continued through the intersection of Alabama River Parkway and Alabama Highway 143, where it nearly struck another vehicle. At this point the driver lost control, leaving the roadway and striking a power pole and guidewire. The driver, later identified as Anastasia T. Philpot, a 27 year-old Montgomery resident, was immediately taken into custody without incident or injury. The passenger, later identified as Jasmyn J. Johnson, a 21 year-old Montgomery resident, fled the vehicle on foot. Johnson was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit, which ended at a near-by business, Cathouse Marine. Johnson was taken into custody without incident or injury. The Alabama Power Company responded to the scene to repair damage to its infrastructure, which resulted in a power outage that impacted the immediate area until repairs were completed.

Philpot was placed under arrest, being charged with felony Attempting to Elude and Reckless Endangerment.

Johnson was placed under arrest, being charged with Attempting to Elude.

Both individuals were transported to the Millbrook Police Department, where they were processed and later transported to the Elmore County Jail pending bond.

Chief P.K. Johnson –

“I’ll never understand why people think that fleeing from law enforcement is a viable option. After speaking with the officers involved, there is a strong possibility that there may have been narcotics present in the alleged offender’s vehicle prior to the vehicle coming to a final stop, as there was a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. No narcotics were found to be inside the vehicle. A loaded firearm was recovered from inside the vehicle and impounded pursuant to the arrest of both alleged offenders. The possible presence of narcotics and a weapon being recovered after the fact notwithstanding, both of these individuals are extremely fortunate that jail is the only repercussions from their actions last night, as their lives could have been ended.

Their decision to elude law enforcement not only placed themselves and officers in jeopardy, but they endangered the lives of others that were traveling in their path at the time of this incident, which is a fact that I’m sure the courts will consider at the time they face sentencing should they be found guilty.  There is also a strong possibility that Alabama Power will pursue prosecution against the driver with regard to damage sustained to their equipment.”
