Knowing that his No. 2 jersey would be retired this season, legendary Auburn quarterback Cam Newton returned to the Plains last week.
Newton attended Auburn’s practice last Thursday after learning of the news and had the opportunity to talk to the players and head coach Hugh Freeze.
Freeze praised Newton in a social media video shared by Auburn Football, and the two discussed the forthcoming season.
Freeze said Newton, “This team is beginning to create some real community like your year.” Jackson is going to be a freak, and it all starts with your position.
Newton told Freeze how excited he was for the new season and gave the head coach credit for reviving the program’s enthusiasm.
Following his conversation with Freeze, Newton shook hands with a few Auburn players on the video, such as Knight and Arnold.
On October 11, when Auburn plays Georgia, Newton’s jersey will be formally retired.
