On Monday, the Associated Press Top 25 college football rankings for the preseason were made public.

Auburn was one of the teams that received votes, and Alabama is currently ranked eighth. The Tigers are not ranked in the preseason for the fifth consecutive year, and the Crimson Tide’s preseason ranking is the lowest since it was No. 24 going into 2008.

For the first time in the history of the AP poll (since 1936), Texas is ranked first in the preseason. The Longhorns were awarded 1,552 poll points and 25 first-place votes.

The Top 10 is completed by Notre Dame, Oregon, Alabama, LSU, and Miami. Penn State is ranked No. 2 (five points behind Texas), followed by Ohio State, Clemson, and Georgia. The Buckeyes received eleven, Clemson four, Georgia and Oregon one, and the Nittany Lions twenty-three first-place votes.

Ranking eleventh are Arizona State, South Carolina, Illinois, Michigan, Florida, SMU, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and Indiana. Iowa State, Texas Tech, Tennessee, and Boise State complete the rankings, with Ole Miss at number twenty-one.

Auburn is trailing BYU, Utah, Baylor, Louisville, USC, Georgia Tech, Missouri, Tulane, Nebraska, UNLV, and Toledo among others who are also getting votes. Ten poll points were awarded to the Tigers overall.

Last week, the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll Top 25 was announced, and Alabama came in at number eight. Those rankings also included votes for Auburn.
