To choose which of the three mayoral and six council candidates will represent the city, Midfield will hold its municipal election on August 26.
Terry Adams, the current Place 1 councilor, and Jimmie Robinson, a rookie to politics, are challenging Mayor Gary Richardson, the city’s first Black mayor, who has served in that capacity since 2004.
In a dispute over the selection of a new board member for the Birmingham Water Works, as it was then known, Richardson was one of several Jefferson County mayors who accused other board members of being unjust.
When the water works were taken over by the state assembly, that feud was rendered moot.
Incumbents Velma Johnson (place 5) and Janice Anderson (place 4) ran uncontested in the city council race and have already been certified to their seats.
The council election There are two contenders for each seat in positions 1, 2, and 3.
