Why is Auburn cross-training one of its offensive linemen at tight end?

When veteran Brandon Frazier suffered a broken foot on Saturday, Auburn’s tight end room suffered a significant setback.

Hugh Freeze stated on Monday that Frazier will be out for a long time due to surgery to remove a pin from his foot.

The first person to step up right away in his place was Micah Riley, who caught a touchdown on Saturday. Another tight end could help Auburn’s run blocking, but Riley might see a larger role in the receiving game.

During his weekly Tiger Talk radio interview on Monday, Freeze stated that Jaden Muskrat, Auburn’s backup offensive lineman, is cross-training at tight end for some goal line sets.

According to Freeze, Auburn frequently utilizes four tight ends in certain settings, so someone has to step in to cover for Frazier.

Beginning tight end Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Rivaldo Fairweather commended Muskrat’s versatility and laughed when he was asked about his ability to catch passes.

I’m not entirely sure. We shall see. Fairweather remarked, “I just know he’s going to go down there and make a block for us.”

Muskrat was also praised by other players besides Fairweather.

Bradyn Joiner, an offensive guard for Auburn, stated, “I think he’s going to be able to get the job done for us, get extra push on the line.” Even though he doesn’t discuss it much, he is knowledgeable about the game.

Before the 2023 season, Muskrat moved from Tulsa to Auburn. In 2023, he participated in every Auburn game and made one start versus Cal.

He hasn’t started for Auburn yet this season, and the only time he played was during Auburn’s victory over Alabama A&M in Week 1.
